Vegetable Fermentation and Sourdough Breadmaking

This is a hands' on workshop where you will learn about the importance of the gut microbiome and be introduced to making sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, kefir, vinegar and sourdough bread.

Make and take home 3 different jars of vegetables, to ferment at home.

Enjoy a shared meal, tasting a variety of fermented foods and sourdough bread; you might like to bring something to contribute, such as toppings for the bread.

Be provided with starters, a detailed handout and recipes. 

Please bring 3 small clean glass jars with lids to take home what you have made.

Fruit Tree Workshop – From Planting to Pruning 

Join us for a hands-on, practical fruit tree workshop designed to give you the knowledge and skills to grow thriving, productive trees—whether you're planting your first sapling or looking to fine-tune your pruning technique.

This two-hour outdoor workshop is split into two engaging parts, offering both essential information and up-close, in-the-field learning.

Part One: Planting for Success Learn how to select the right fruit trees for your site, choose the best rootstocks, and prepare your soil. We’ll also cover first-year pruning and disease prevention so your trees get off to a strong, healthy start.

Part Two: Pruning in Practice Then we’ll head into an established orchard for a hands-on pruning session. You’ll learn how to manage existing trees, focusing on winter pruning techniques, seasonal maintenance, and how to work with a variety of species. A great opportunity to gain confidence with real tools and real trees.

What to Bring:

  • Secateurs (if you have them)

  • Gloves

  • A drink bottle

Important Notes:

  • Dress appropriately for the outdoors – this workshop is fully held outside. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe, water-resistant footwear, and weather-appropriate layers.

  • In case of heavy rain, the workshop will be postponed to a backup date. We'll notify you directly if the schedule changes.

  • Please meet at the Mangaroa Farm Shop. Overflow parking is available, from there we will meet and caravan to the pruning site.

Tickets: $35 – Spaces are limited, so book early!

Mangaroa Farms will be putting together a lunch including our famous smoked lamb buns topped with Mesclun salad straight from the gardens + our Mangaroa beef / lamb sausages on the BBQ. Vegetarian options will also available.

The Farm Shop will be open as normal from 9am - 5pm, and we will have our farm produce, product bundles, and our latest merchandise available for purchase on the day.

Sam’s yoga offering is a Terra-soma style class, meaning earth-body. This style is a synthesis of Hatha Yoga, Somatic Inquiry, and nature awareness/connection. This class will be a time to explore the lungs and befriending the breath. You can expect a mixture of seated, standing and balancing poses, simple breath work, music, repitition of sequences to facilitate the possibility finding your flow and listening to your body. Everyone is welcome, all ages and abilities. Come as you are.

Enjoy sunshine, fresh air, and let the kids connect with nature in the serenity of our market garden.

The kids Library Bus will be parked at the garden from 1pm to 3pm with plenty of books for children to enjoy. We’ll have ground blankets for a relaxing picnic-style vibe and a spacious marquee for some extra shade. 📚🚌

Build your own picnic with goodies from our farm shop, featuring fresh Mangaroa Farms produce, ice blocks, cheese, bread, delicious drinks, chocolate and more. Plus, families who attend the event will enjoy a complimentary 10% discount on all farm shop products during the event. You’re also welcome to bring your own picnic favourites from home. 🧺

Upgrade your day with an optional regenerative garden tour, led by our friendly guides. It’s a beautiful one-hour introduction to our gardening techniques and sustainable practices. 👨‍🌾

Families can also explore the Mangaroa Farm Loop walk, a free and scenic journey through our native forest regeneration efforts. It’s the perfect way to experience the tranquillity of the landscape while supporting our environmental initiatives. 🌿

There’s plenty of fun for the kids with giant Jenga, cornhole, connect 4, and a hay bale treasure hunt filled with treats.
