Summer Newsletter - December 2025
As the sunshine of raumati / summer returns, we've been busy across the farm - managing the rapid growth of grass around winter plantings, hosting new events, planting fresh summer crops, and engaging in exciting new livestock activities.
More recently, over four days at Mangaroa, we recently welcomed the very first Earth Fellows cohort - consisting of ten regenerative leaders from across Aotearoa, each deeply rooted in whenua, kai, and community.
For these esteemed leaders in their field, this was a space for nourishment and support. A time to connect and weave a connection to eachother across their realms of specialty, whilst also bringing their gifts to the Mangaroa community.
This hui marked the beginning of a year-long fellowship - a commitment to strengthen the weave of the regenerative movement in Aotearoa.
You can learn more about the Earth Fellows and watch the journey unfold here.
In the meantime, we wish to thank you all for your support this year in contributing towards making our kaupapa into what it is today. From all of our families to yours, we wish you all a wonderful festive & holiday break. ππ
Please enjoy this month's updates (including our shop holiday hours) from our local ecosystem below.
NgΔ mihi aroha,
The team at Mangaroa Farms
Latest Updates
The Market Garden Tunnel House is now full with young seedlings of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and eggplants - summer is well underway. More
Recent soil tests in the tunnel houseβ showed us that salt levels were on the rise, mostly due to our irrigation system which feeds from a local mountain spring/stream. This was a lucky catch, as too much salt is hard to come back from. A rainwater tank now feeds the greenhouse beds.=
New Sprinklers have replaced our drip feeding irrigation lines, which help us more accurately keep track of what has been watered.
The Permaculture Orchard is now home to hundreds of Potatoes, Pumpkins, coming a long way in the last 4 months. More
A second-hand tunnelhouse that we picked up from a recent movie production on the farm has now found a new home in the market gardens. More
The Mangaroa Team celebrated our annual holiday party at the Rustic Kitchen in Maymorn over the weekend - big thanks to Tania, Tyler and the team for hosting us. More
Predator Free efforts in Mangaroa have seen 240+ deer, goats, rabbits and possums removed from the whenua in 2025. More
An Earth Wall was built under the new Pavillion outdoor area during an earthbuilding workshop with world renowned architect and earth-builder Sigi Koko. More
The Potato Growers Co-op came together late November at planted hundreds of Potatoes in the Permaculture orchard - ready for harvest in Autumn 2026. More
A multi-species crop has been sown in some of the paddocks closest to Wallaceville road. Stay tuned for the growth (and colours) over summer.
Recent Mangaroa Farms Open Day was our largest event to date, with over 1500 people visiting the farm. More
Our local butchery project means we'll soon be able to process our Mangaroa meat on-site. In the meantime online meat orders are offline until early 2026.
Halter Collars are live for our cattle in certain areas of the farm, and seem to be working well. More updates coming soon.
