31,000 Native Trees Planted next to the Mangaroa River

Over the last few weeks, the team from Natural Habitats has been busy planting 10,000+ native seedlings and young trees along the edge of the Mangaroa River at the farm

This #riparian style of planting will help to create solid root structures along the bank to help manage soil erosion, curb any farm runoff, and encourage a healthy diversity of bird life whilst boosting the health of water organisms in the Awa.

The trees/seedlings are planted in the soil, and then surrounded at the base with a 100% NZ woollen weed mat, and then protected with a biodegradable cardboard shield, until the seedling gets large and strong enough to be able to stand freely on its own..

Some trees/seedlings we recognized include Tī Kouka (Cabbage tree), Harakeke (flax), Karamū, Totara, Mānuka, Kānuka, Mingimingi & more.

We look forward to watching these babies grow over the next few yearsOver the last few weeks, the team from Natural Habitats has been busy planting 10,000+ native seedlings and young trees along the edge of the Mangaroa River at the farm
